Hi!
Just a quick post to say we have been in touch with the Estate Agent this morning.
After spending the weekend being conpletely paranoid as we did not get a call about the house, and thinking our buyers were going to pull out after the survey - knew there was nothing wrong with it - we are now assured that all is progressing as it should. Pheweee!
The survey apparently was very good, for a house built in the 1870's!
Our moving date will probably be about September 4 which is a shame because the boys will miss the start of school, but only two days and I think I can manage with that.
The relief is immense I have to say.
Contracts should be signed close to 24th as our buyers have a week away booked then it is Bank Holiday.
And so the packing continues by one very much happier bunny.

Stuff and nonsense.
Good morning.
You may remember I recently read a book by James Wallman called Stuffocation.
This is a bit of a thing with me at the moment coinciding with us moving, hopefully. (More of that later, hoepfully.)The basic idea being that we should try to stop buying stuff and spend our money on experiences instead and live life as an experientialist and not as materialistic. Thanks to this book we have sold our second car and I have placed my wedding dress with a dress agency to sell! The theory does not mean you cannot have things. You can have expensive things if they are what give you pleasure in a pursuit but it is about not just buying for the sake of buying, upgrading when you really don't need to etc. It covers lots of associated subjects from the point of view of sociologists, psychologists and economists and I thouroughly recommend it as an interesting view of society and consumerism.
Following on from that, I was the lucky winner of a book called The Simple Living Handbook by Lorilee Lippincott, thanks to Our Quiet Life In Suffolk. This fits in perfectly with the "stuff" theme as she says some very "simple" and sensible things, such as:
- Your stuff does not define you.
Many people think it does exactly that because if you don't have the latest gadget, biggest TV etc you are not up there with the Jones'. I'm pleased to be down here with the Houghtons frankly!
- Your stuff does not dictate your economic value in the world, your self-worth, or your importance.
I agree with this entirely because I do not intend on spending my money just to impress somebody else!
Thanks to various chapters and sections of her book I have this weekend
Well I feel a bit cleansed after this experience and hope to continue feeling this way. I hope this frame of mind will help us in our new life when we are where we want to be and not where we have to currently be, as we are at the moment.
I would love any thoughts or comments on this post from you.xx

Ultimately, I am more than my stuff!
Thanks to various chapters and sections of her book I have this weekend
- assessed my wardrobe including giving some things to the charity shop which I have been dragging around with me for ten years and STILL cannot fit into
- thought about just how many of the kitchen things I have already packed away for moving that I really need to bother unpacking

Survey - check!
Hands up who has never felt nervous when having a survey ready for moving house?
Liar, liar, pants on fire.
I know nothing should put people off our house because this is the second buyer who has requested one for their mortgage, but it doesn't stop you feeling a little anxious.
At least we only have to wait until tomorrow at the latest for the salient points as the surveyor is going on his holibobs on Saturday so has to just about wrap it up by the end of the day.
We seem to be getting there!

Home, and ready to move!!
Good morning!
We returned from our holiday in Menorca early afternoon on Wednesday. We called the Estate Agent for an update to be told our buyers really would like to come and do some measuring up on Thursday morning - no rest for the wicked heh? Luckily the house was clean from attic to cellar before we left so nothing much to do before they came.
Our week away was much needed but very, very hot at times. Ate lots of little fried fishes, yum, Spanish omelete, mmm, good local beer. We did a couple of things we weren't able to do last time as we decided to hire a car for the week. I love a boat trip so we have a lovely jaunt around Mahon harbour.
We also took the boys to a go cart track, but these were not a leisurely couple of laps. The things went about 20 miles an hour and we both were a little nervous, but we still went back for another go!
Cala Galdana is a lovely beach and we went on a pedalo with a slide on the back for Jon and the boys to go down into the water. Great fun!
Regarding the house, it seems we could be moving before September 1st, not sure yet until the survey is done on our house (hick-up as it should have been done last Friday) but everything else is ready to go for the signing of contracts! Soooooo excited and can't help thinkiing about it all! We will be in a bit of a mess for a few weeks whilst hubs does some work on it but ask me if I care?!
A lovely sunny day today so a walk for the dog this afternoon but I think we'll have a run out to the library after breakfast.
Will let you know how we get on in the next couple of days.x

Good news, no, fab news!
Today we finally have received and accepted an offer on the house! Get in!!
We are beside ourselves with excitement. Obviously we are a little nervous because of things falling through last time, however our uber wonderful solicitor assures us that due to our buyers just about being ready to exchange the likelihood of it going belly up again is very very unlikely.
The thing is they are looking to move by September 1! Our solicitor says this is more than achieveable and, although a little mad crazy, it would mean we can start school in Wales on the 2nd! Eeeek!
I am very pleased we are going away on Wednesday more than ever now as it gives me time to get my head straight and not go right into panic mode. A friend at school asked me if I had a list when I told her we had accepted our other offer. I said I didn't have a list, I had a book! I live my life by lists it has to be said so a lot of my prep is done; just a case of putting things into place. Once we have exchanged I can get on with lots of stuff but not quite figured out how I'm going to get school supplies organised; there will have to be a trip to the school shop before we move that is for sure.
I'm sure you can imagine my head is like spaghetti at the moment, but just wish me luck and I will be keeping you updated on the next mad five weeks or so of our crazy life situation.
Catch you later.xx
